Thank you Bruce for once again reminding us Catholics (around the world) that we should give of our substance. Thank you for continuing to help us through this journey of transformation, as we form a closer personal relationship with Jesus.

Many thanks again Bruce for a clear explanation of Almsgiving…could I add one other thing, people also do this when they give of their time
such as Volunteers, Vincentians, visiting the sick etc,…

This is a challenge if we are to give of ourselves without any reason other than seeing the need….There have been times when my heart has been so touched that I have been graced to do this, but most of the time I will share with a close friend or “inform” god of what I have done or said. Thankfully I am becoming aware that I do not need the approval of others like I used to, The more honest my relationship is with God the more I am assured that He knows without my need to inform Him.

Hi Yvonne that is so wonderfully said. Yes we tend to want to tell others and even God. But God always knows our actions as secret as they can be. He knows our feelings and our motivations for why we do the things we do. The longer we walk with God and do the necessary reflection on our relationship with God, we do as you say discover that God knows already. This knowledge leads us to greater surrender and peace. Again Yvonne, well said.

Yes I have been guilty for telling others and explaining away to God who knows me and my actions better than I know myself concerning alms giving. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I’ve also found myself hesitating about the appropriate time to give. Thank you Bruce for clarifying that and explaining to us about alms giving and for your prayer

Ah, the widow’s mite. Sweet Jesus, may my piety cease.

I have heard you tell us before about giving . But everytime I hear it I get it a little more and gain a bit more understanding . Thank you for sharing about alms. I am trying to give without getting back, but am now going to pray about giving without being known I am giving. I am sure God will find me a way if I am open.

Here in Rome begging is sometimes considered to be one of the local industries. It is so easy to rationalise that the beggars don’t really need help. But when I was with the youth in WYD Madrid, I was so impressed by the ease with which the yyouth gave so generously to each and every beggar they saw. They put me to shame. Their example encourages me now to see the face of Christ in each one who asks for help. May Lent this year be a rich occasion for mercy to others.

Thank you Bruce for the reminder.
Your message reminds me of my sister who gives and gives and rarely takes. Sometimes I think she works so that she could give to others! When she receives her salary, she practically distributes her earnings – to her church, to our elderly parents and anyone else in the family or a friend who is in dire straights, leaving just enough to cover her food and transportation to work. I am in awe of how she does it, and I am many steps behind her. (She’s not Catholic Christian).

Thank you Bruce for today meditation. Help me Jesus to be more generous and don’t tip God. You are the only one who see inside of me, walk with me during this journey, without you , I am nothing
